Safe Havens

“Sand Hill Foundation was one of our founding sponsors. Over the years, the Foundation has continued to support our work. We always feel like we can have an open and honest conversation with them; even more important, we know they trust us.”
— Seana O’Shaughnessy, Executive Director

For nearly 100,000 low-income homeowners in San Mateo and Northern Santa Clara Counties, the decision to make needed repairs to their homes is unfortunately all too often an easy one: they simply can’t afford to do it. And that means living in conditions that are, at best, uncomfortable and, at worst, dangerous.

The mission of Rebuilding Together Peninsula is to rehabilitate these homes and community facilities, enabling homeowners and neighbors — including seniors, people with disabilities, and families — to live independently in warmth and safety, and be able to divert limited financial resources to other necessities.

Like all nonprofits, Rebuilding Together Peninsula allocates most of its funding towards direct services and raising money for its own infrastructure improvements is not always top priority.

But a recent small capital grant from Sand Hill Foundation allowed the organization to replace an outdated, inefficient database with a new Salesforce platform, enabling integrated email, instant response tracking, and more. With all of the benefits of a modern technology system, the new software enables the staff to devote more time to ensuring that homeowners in this area are able to live in a safe and healthy environment.
