“Grantors, like individuals, often shy away from looking closely at the impact of death and loss on our society. Sand Hill Foundation truly understands the healing power of providing accessible, timely support to those who are grieving.” — Jim Santucci, CPA, Executive Director
While death and dying are an inevitable part of the life cycle, the reality of losing a family member or friend is one of the most traumatic experiences in an individual’s life. Moving through the grieving process can be an extremely tumultuous time, as emotional stress, vulnerability, sadness, anger, and confusion all collide. In the wake of this avalanche, going to work, maintaining relationships, and even daily functioning become daunting tasks for many mourners.
Since 1976, Kara has been providing grief support to community members in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, which includes individual and group peer support, in-house psychotherapy, on-site crisis intervention, bereavement education and training
services, Camp Erin, and other community events. In addition, Kara is deepening its work along the Peninsula, providing holistic support to schools and bilingual services to the Latino community. In short, Kara provides a catalyst for hope and healing for those individuals, families and organizations suffering grief and loss.
In the niche area of grief support, there are a limited number of funders. However, for over two decades Sand Hill Foundation has been a steadfast champion of Kara’s bereavement services to families and individuals, providing general operating support to ensure the continuation of the extensive services offered and Kara’s efforts to deepen and enhance their work and support to the community.
